The Social Welfare and Community Development Department seeks to promote and implement government policies and public services that can substantially improve social inclusion, development of people and communities with the District. The department is a merger of the Social Development and Community Development Unit, Head by Mr. Siedu Rauf Abdulai
Functions
- Plan, initiate and coordinate community-based project, day care centres and services for the rehabilitation of the physically challenged;
- Oversee efficient juvenile justice administration and implementation of statutory legal instrument;
- Monitor and evaluate programmes, policies and emerging social issues such as HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and child abuse, and make recommendation for decision making;
- Assist in planning and implementation of social welfare programmes in the district;
- Assist in the formulation of policy guidelines and procedures concern the social welfare of the citizens in the District;
- Set standards and guidelines for vocational guidance and prevocational preparation of the physically challenged;
- Ensure that community rehabilitation programmes are properly functioning
- Organize public advocacy programme and campaign against injustices confronting the vulnerable in the District;
- Register, monitor and supervise the operations, programmes and activities of NGOs working on social issues affecting disadvantage people and the community;
- Organize social and adult education programmes
- Participate in capacity building programmes for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), NGOs and community Authorities;
- Appraise direct reports; and
- Undertake any other task that may be assigned
