The department of Works of the Assembly is a merger of the Public Works Department, Department of Feeder Roads and the works Unit.

The Head of Department is Mr. Emmanuel Owusu

Functions

  • Assist the assembly to formulate policies on works within the District
  • Provide technical backstopping;
  • Evaluate technical and economic context of consultancy proposal submitted to the District by both foreigners and local consultants;
  • Participate in the administration and management of contracts;
  • Advises on procurement of works, goods and services in the District;
  • Plan, design and implement projects in the District;
  • Monitor and evaluate projects in the District
  • Coordinate procurement and contract administration;
  • Prepare annual budget on works in the District;
  • Prepare draft designs and tender document in the district
  • Writes and submits reports on all engineering works undertaken in the District
  • Facilitate the repairs and maintenance of equipment, vehicles and infrastructure facilities in the District;
  • Facilitate the provision of wholesome adequate supply of portable water for the entire district;
  • In consultation with the Electricity company of Ghana (ECG) facilitate the provision of street lighting;
  • Facilitate the construction, repair and maintenance of public roads including feeder roads, and drains along settlement
  • Assist to build, equips, close and maintain market and prohibit the erections of stalls in places other than market;
  • Facilitate the registration and maintenance of data on public buildings;
  • Appraise direct report; and
  • Undertake any other functioning
ABOUT KAPSDA

The Kwahu Afram Plains South District was carved out from the Kwahu North District and forms part of the newly created districts in the country which were inaugurated on 19th June, 2012. The Legislative Instrument (LI) that established the District is 2045 and was passed in 2012.

The District is bounded to the north by the Kwahu Afram Plains North, to the south by Kwahu South, to the east by the Volta River and to the west by two districts in the Ashanti region precisely Sekyere East and Ashanti-Akim Districts.

The District is located between Latitudes 6o 40I N and 70 10’1 N; longitudes 0O 40I E and 0o 10I E; at the North-Western corner of Eastern Region with a total land area of approximately 3,095 sq km.
